Blog #4: Consider The Lobster

The newspaper article “Consider the Lobster” by David Foster Wallace discusses the Maine Lobster Festival a “lucrative and loud” enterprise that celebrates the lobster with music, drinks, and amazing food (centered around lobster of course). He begins the article by describing the festival then goes into serious depth about the specifics of the lobster both categorically as an animal and a food revealing the extensive amount of research put into the article. The author even attended the MLF himself adding his own experience and legitimacy to the article. He deconstructs the Festival displaying all the pros and cons, which seem to outweigh the pros severely. The history of Lobster seems to be diminished by the greed and attention that is given to collecting money rather than the crustacean that is in the name of the actual festival its self. After reading about the informative bits of information coupled with the author’s own experience this article goes above and beyond the requirements of a standard research paper making it interesting, educational, and effective.
