Overall Reflection:

Throughout this course my writing style remained the same. I expected it to remain the same, but what I did not expect was the struggle I would have with project two. Generally, I understand concepts and assignments and am able to perform well, but this was by far the largest rhetorical challenge I have ever faced. As a final reflection I find it fitting to focus on project two because I believe that it required the most amount of work and effort than any other writing assignment I have ever tackled. I have never written a research paper prior to this course and enjoyed being able to become an expert on a topic, and attempting to communicate/share my knowledge through an informative paper. This paper challenged not only my ability as a writer, but as a teacher as well. No other class has made me go through this process, to this extent at least, and it was a beneficial one to go through. The struggle I endured led me to revise my paper and dive into detail and depth on a genre that relates to me, and that I am much more interested in. The revision process was more of a rewrite than anything, I started from scratch abandoning most of the material from my first attempt really teaching me how important revision is and enforcing the main point behind “Shitty First Drafts”. Instead of having a shitty first draft, I accidentally made a shitty first paper. Going to office hours and the RWC really helped me improve on my writing and better capture the goal of the project.
Aside from the second project, I really enjoyed the first and third. Project one was a great start to the course. I understood the main goal, executed my plans efficiently, and received the grade I desired. What helped me ensure that I was on the proper course was the meeting in Sweet Shop. There we discussed my paper and how to reach my goal of an A and produce an exemplary paper. The creativity in the third was extremely fun to partake in. I enjoyed forming the multi-genre campaign and it actually helped me for a useful group that I will be a part of for years to come. The group I made was a subdivision of my project two community, the chemistry department, that is very specific. This group was “FSU Chemical Engineering Majors Class of 2020”. This newly formed group will actually be able to help each other long after this class and never would have been created without the inspiration from this project.
The more I look at this course, the more I see benefits from taking it. Another great thing about this course was the wix website. Being able to make a website is an incredibly useful skill to have and becoming proficient with wix was an amazing, sometimes frustrating, journey to go through in this course. I can now use what I have learned from wix to make my own, professional websites and plan to do just so for a possible job this summer. Without being required to learn the program, I probably would have never become so familiar and capable with it. A problem I first encountered with my site was the blogs. I was not able to have a proper blog format and instead uploaded the documents and linked them to text of the blog titles. I eventually was able to get the blog to work and now have both forms in the blog section. While my initial way wasn’t pretty and was improper, I am still proud of it. I found another solution to the problem and worked around my issue, eventually figuring out the correct way to do it. This problem solving is a great thing to go through and makes this course even more beneficial.
The results of taking this class were incredibly beneficial to me as not just a student, but will aid me in my future career as a chemical engineer. The benefits from project two were the increased knowledge and familiarity with lab reports and the impact of revisions and project three allowed me to form a group of peers that will be connected their entire time here at FSU. Although the course is required, I am very glad I took it.
